Self Assessment Engine

ISO/IEC 19770-1 SAM: Are You Ready?

ISO published on 18 June 2007 the ISO/IEC 19770-1 SAM self-assessment tool. This product was developed together with Investors in Software, which was responsible for developing the software application and the guidance contained in the package.

This product is available initially only on CD. It is available from the itSMF on behalf of IiS. (Click here to go the itSMF ordering website.) It is also available from ISO, national standards bodies, and other authorized resellers for ISO and ISO/IEC standards. The cost from the itSMF is £79 for the individual-use version; and £209 for the organisational-use version. A downloadable version will be available in the near future.

Investors in Software has developed a SAM Self-Assessment Engine to help IT professionals implement SAM techniques and prepare for certification against ISO / IEC 19770-1.

The application sets out the core SAM processes alongside guidance in plain English, allowing IT departments to take immediate steps to implement SAM.

Vendor specific modules increase the depth and value of the engine.

You can append relevant documentation to each point – and quickly identify areas of concern.

The Self-Assessment Engine is expected to be available from ISO under the title "ISO/IEC 19770-1: Are You Ready?" and through the usual distribution channels for ISO and IEC standards. It will be sold in two different versions, an organizational or personal use license. The organizational use license will allow the product to be used by anyone in the organization, using any number of copies, but exclusively for the purposes of that named organization. The personal use license will be usable only by a single named individual, but that individual (e.g. a consultant) can use it on an unlimited number of organizations, so long as the product is only run by the named individual, and the printouts of the contents of the standard itself are not distributed.
